Calexico announced their 2022 North American Summer Tour dates. Additionally, the group led by singer Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino continues to preview their forthcoming El Mirador studio album by releasing the single “Harness The Wind” featuring backing vocals from Iron & Wine (Sam Beam).

Portland, Oregon’s Revolution Hall will host the tour opener on June 3. Calexico stays in the Pacific Northwest for concerts in Tacoma, Washington (June 4); Seattle (June 5); Vancouver (June 6) and Boise, Idaho (June 8). The run moves on to Salt Lake City (June 9) ahead of a trip to Colorado featuring shows in Fort Collins (June 10) and Denver (June 11). Next comes a swing through Texas with dates in Dallas (June 13), Houston (June 14) and Austin (June 15) before the band heads to Arizona for performances in Phoenix (June 18) and Tucson (June 19). The jaunt concludes in California with two nights in Solana Beach (June 22 and 23), a show in San Francisco (June 25) and an appearance at Laytonville’s Kate Wolf Music Festival (June 26).

Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. PT for most shows. Score Calexico tickets for numerous summer dates on Ticketmaster.

Calexico’s El Mirador arrives through ANTI- Records on April 8. Burns and Convertino prepped the follow-up to their 2020 holiday album, Seasonal Shift, with longtime bandmate Sergio Mendoza. The 12-track LP was recorded last summer at Mendoza’s Tucson, Arizona home studio. Sergio played keys, accordion and percussion on El Mirador, which also features contributions from Beam, Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno and Spanish musician Jairo Zavala. “El Mirador showcases a sunnier side of the band, cutting through two years of pandemic fog with a blast of danceable optimism,” according to a press release.

“Harness The Wind” comes after Calexico previously unveiled the album’s title track. “When we recorded ‘Harness the Wind’ it felt like we tapped into a spark of bright light and positivity,” explained Calexico co-founder Joey Burns. “Everything fell together quickly and naturally. With the shiny electric guitar weaving in and out of John and Sergio’s propelling drums and bass, the song always had a vibe that stood out from the other songs. We sent the tracks to Sam Beam to add his vocals on the chorus which made the tune float even more. It’s a song about hope and sharing compassion to fellow travelers and dreamers who are trying to find their way.”
