DENVER — Colorado lawmakers along with Denver school board members gathered Wednesday evening to address gun violence in schools.

A neighborhood meeting, in Knight Center for Early Education, generated feedback on how decision makers can help halt the violence.

The city hall-style meeting began with a minute of silence for those impacted by the STEM faculty shooting. Soon after, pupils were encouraged to talk.

“Going to college afraid something bad is going to occur shouldn’t even be a worry to pupils,” a 17-year-old South High School pupil told the crowd.

The pupils served as strong examples of where we are as a culture that sees a lot of school shootings.

“I would say the time has become, but the timing was the first time,” the other student said.

The objective was to discuss possible answers and come together to combat the danger that is always on individuals ’s thoughts. The meeting, hosted by nonprofit Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation, was a chance for elected leaders and other officers to hear from a few of the youngest constituents.

Throughout the meeting, the secretary in charge of Denver Public Schools safety told parents that the district is investigating a new approach to convey lockouts and other safety concerns faster. The machine ought to be prepared by the Fall.

Lawmakers in attendance promised to continue listening to parents and pupils as they work to find out what new legislation might be necessary to help mitigate violence. Specific details weren’t supplied on what lawmakers may or may not do following legislative session.
