Yo La Tengo Started their annual 8 Nights Of Hanukkah With Yo La Tengo Streak of holiday shows on Sunday in New York City’s The Bowery Ballroom. As expected, many guests united Yo La Tengo onstage including Steve Gunn, William Tyler, Fred Armisen along with Circle Jerks‘ Greg Hetson.
Guitarists Gunn and Tyler played with an opening duo set featuring vocalist Alexis Powell along with a cover of Jerry Garcia’s “Mission In The Rain”. Comedian Jon Glaser was also on Sunday’s lineup. Tyler was back onstage with Yo La Tengo for the length of their primary set, which featured Armisen on drums. Gunn appeared to add guitar into “Flying Lesson (Hot Chicken #1)” and then proceeded to keyboard for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Wharf Rat. ” Gunn was back on guitar for a version of “Today Is The Day,” followed by “Tom Courtenay” along with also the Pass the Hatchet, I Think I’m Goodkind. ”
Circle Jerks guitarist Greg Hetson came out using YLT for its encore, leading away using “Live Fast Die Young. ” Hetson remained for subsequent covers of Red Cross’ “S&M Party,” Dee Dee Ramone/Richard Hell’s “Chinese Rocks” along with The Ramones’ “Carbona Not Glue. ” A masked Glaser subsequently came out to sing “White Christmas. ” 8 Nights Of Hanukkah With Yo La Tengo proceeds at The Bowery this evening.
