We are here in order to speak about Lettuce. Not the kind that crunches in your mouth, however, the kind that crunches on your ears. The kind that is Grammy-nominated due to their 2019 release Elevate and will deliver the celebration to the Fillmore Auditorium on December 7.

Lettuce is a funk band that originated in Boston with a group of artists at Berklee College of Music. As their beginnings in 1992, the six artists have created seven studio albums and two live records. They have created a name for themselves with being captains of genre-bending, innovative improvisations and contemporary funk jams. We spoke with drummer Adam Deitch concerning this time for the band and what Denver lovers can look forward to with the show at The Fillmore.

303 Magazine: You are based in Denver, right?  Elevate was recorded in Denver. Exterior of working with legendary producer Russ Elevado (The Roots, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu), how did you opt to work on this record here?

AD: I sure am. Me [Adam] Smirnoff, the guitar player, and Benny [Bloom] the trumpet player live in Denver. So, three out of the six live here. We love it here, it was beautiful out and we wanted to record there. Smirnoff’we wanted to be close here and s wife was pregnant at the time. We’re happy we did there, it was a nice flow. It all worked out.

303: Elevate is nominated for a 2020 Grammy, congratulations! What were your initial thoughts on hearing this information?

AD: t’s only surreal. Unbelievable. We’re thankful to the community and everybody else who supported us. It’s an amazing feeling.

I it’s always shocking because we’re outcasts. We don&rsquo. We’ve always been little left-field band that’s playing funk music, jamming out it. We thought we’d the kind of juice to pull off . Our mission is kind of legitimized by it.

303: You have stated that Elevate stretches the bounds, and that’s to be anticipated with Lettuce. How can you master this while staying true to your signature sound?

AD: By having Russ Elevado — which isn’t a matter — helped shape our sound in the warmest variant. Simply having him in the room together while documenting, knowing the records he has witnessed, made us play , made us tuned and made us relax as he’so chill.

303: How can the process of producing Elevate differ from previous jobs?

AD: We were super ready, I had written 30 songs. We planned on recording about 12, which is generally what we do, and we all ended up listing. We were in such a fantastic zone with Russ, the studio along with Denver itself.  The songs were new and they felt fresh.

303: You are bringing Elevate to your Denver buffs on December 7 at the Fillmore. What is your favourite part of doing for your home base?

AD: It’s dream to play in Denver. We have so many friends and family out here. We are all from New York and Boston, and that was always a hub of where we did the very best. When we started traveling outside, Denver was the very first place outside that to actually represent this band and pack it out. This means a lot to us now and is a enormous reason I transferred here. Scott Morrill over at Cervantes — promoter and the owner — he’s been an instrumental part of people being in Denver and being part of the. We have friends in the business that are supporters and we can’t wait to play the Fillmore to observe.

303: Do you have a favourite time playing at Denver?

AD: All our Red Rocks displays are memorable. I played with Pretty Lights in 2010, 2011, 2012, also I watched Red Rocks sold out and it was incredible. I thought, “Wow, I wonder if Lettuce could play here? ” That was a dream at that stage, we were playing little places. It’s a dream to use this location.

303: What Elevate monitor would you most looking forward to doing in Denver?

AD: We’re going to do a mix, play with some classics and some new things. I’m not very certain what we’ll play but it’ll be a lot of tracks from Elevate, it is going to be great to play with any one of those tunes.

303: Will there be some surprises to arrive at the Denver operation?

AD: We’re likely going to have a guest or 2, I’m not very sure who that will be. We have a brand new lighting specialist who does a very killer light show. Everything is firing all cylinders at this time. Our team the guys that are sound, the tour director, everyone is locked . We are all set to move in there and crush. “Elevate” that crowd.

303: Is there anything else?

AD: Everyone needs to be there for our Grammy nomination celebration. At home! We’re going to bash the more power will be through the roof.
