Amid historical snowfall that spring, snowplow operators moving gigantic drifts from different ends of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park managed to fulfill this week for its first time.
Trail Ridge Road — which, at 12,183 feet, is the highest continuous paved road in the United States — stays closed due to the snow,” National Park Service spokesman Kyle Patterson stated in a news release.
“It is too soon to forecast when Trail Ridge Road will start for the season,” she explained, adding the extended forecast is advancing for next week.
Plow operators around the west side were able to achieve the Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store place, Patterson stated, which are still below a deluge of snow.
In mid-April, plow operators reported snowpack states were average to below average, Patterson explained, but multiple May storms driven their attempts back to lower elevations.
Every year from mid-April, Rocky Mountain National Park snowplow operators start plowing the Trail Ridge — dealing with gigantic drifts around to 22 feet. Depending upon snowfall, the road can start as soon as May 7 as soon as June 26, the Park Service said.
