Looks like there will be in-person rock concerts at Red Rocks this summer after all

The very first live rock concerts of the summer 2020 year at Red Rocks Amphitheatre are arriving in September.

Acclaimed Boulder roots-rock group Gasoline Lollipops may perform two places, at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 14 to celebrate the release of its new album, “All of the Misery Money Can Buy. ”

The exhibits will mark the first time a rock group has played the Morrison venue’s outdoor stage in front of a live crowd since the coronavirus pandemic came in March.

In fact, they could be the only live exhibits that any rock group plays the Red Rocks primary stage this season.

“I’t never reserved a series complicated,” stated lead singer Clay Rose through telephone. “It was a enormous learning curve for people, and a major learning curve for Red Rocks, also. Booking during a pandemic is a whole different animal. ”

Rose and his alt-country bandmates typically release records at places like Boulder’s Fox Theatre, Denver’s Bluebird Theater or Fort Collins’ Aggie, where houses are packed by them with fans.

With no choice for an indoor album-release, they switched to places like Planet Bluegrass in Lyons and Denver’s Levitt Pavilion. Both canceled their seasons before Gasoline Lollipops can perform.

“So really, Red Rocks has been the previous venue, I understood, performing outdoor live music,” Rose stated, noting that Bellvue’s Mishawaka Amphitheatre (that will be hosting socially distanced shows) appeared too much a drive for its Boulder-rooted audience.

Why aren’t dozens more bands doing so? Rose thinks that Gasoline Lollipops got blessed. There are occasions, both public and private, scheduled at Red Rocks almost every day for the upcoming few months — such as autumn concerts that have to be canceled (but that undoubtedly will be before the series date), as well as yoga sessions along with drive-in films from Denver Film.

“When we reserved I think it was the previous day that they had available in their year,” Rose stated. “I would guess the reason is that it’s tricky to split there, so we talked them into letting us do two shows in one day. That’s Why is it a chance. ”

After the concept was first proposed about a month ago, Red Rocks countered with a $15,000 rental offer. While previous album-release shows at the Fox and other places have made enough cash to pay a record ’hence production, the Red Rocks series appeared out of reach for the group — at least until an enterprising Gasoline Lollipops enthusiast took it upon himself to advocate them, hacking through the red tape and fulfilling application requirements.

The group was able to secure discounted equipment out of Fort Collins’ Rockfan Entertainment since the normal Red Rocks rental doesn’t include audio or lighting equipment. But, audiences will still be restricted to the statewide limit of 175 people per series, with the attendant health and safety guidelines (mask requirements, enforced social bookmarking, etc..)

Tickets for the shows, that Rose hopes to market fast, are on sale for $65 beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 through redrocksonline.com. The other live, people concerts at Red Rocks this year have been acoustic shows from the Colorado Symphony, and all those have sold out, also .

“There has been a moment when I threw in the towel and said, & & lsquo; We& & rsquo;ll just do that in rsquo & a person;s rear lawn,’ & & rdquo; Rose stated. “But our good buddy Angela Valero (the aforementioned superfan) stated, ‘We’re not permitting this to happen. You guys have put work. ’ “

Not every group has such passionate supporters. But even large acts like Nathaniel Rateliff along with The Lumineers won’t be enjoying Red Rocks this season. The simple fact that Gasoline Lollipops is a mid-level (though nonetheless world-touring) group may have worked in its favor, since its comparatively low prices have the capability to justify the cost of Colorado’s weakest place.

In most cases acts have canceled their slots at Red Rocks this summer because the ticket limits — 175 individuals, a small percent of the 9,450-capacity venue — also make it economically infeasible.

“The limitations are strict,” Rose stated. “There’s no crossover whatsoever between backstage along with the crowd, therefore people & ’re not going to be able to sign CDs or match people or anything. We have to have two photographers — just one for the audience and you backstage — at which we now ’d normally have one. It’will be surreal, but at precisely exactly the exact same time it fits with the subject of the album (‘All of the Misery Money Can Buy’-RRB- and everything ’s happening right now. ”
